Fork-to-Star Ratio
Forks as a percentage of stars.
- API field
derived from forks_count and stargazers_count
- Formula
- forks_count / stargazers_count * 100
- Unit
- percent
How to read it
A weak proxy for how many readers turned into contributors. Useful for spotting repositories whose audience behaves differently from the crowd's.
What it does not mean
- Mirror-only and pull-request-only forks inflate it without any contribution.
- Defined as 0 when stars are 0, which is a choice, not a measurement.
- Do not read it as engagement quality. A repository people fork to abandon has a high ratio too.
