How to read it
The fairest available comparison between repositories of different ages. It is an average over the whole lifetime, so a burst twelve months ago is spread thinly.
What it does not mean
An average over the entire lifetime is not a current velocity. A repository that exploded once and has been quiet since will still show a high figure.
Favours repositories whose popularity arrived early in their life.
Computed by dividing by at least 1 day, so a repository created today does not divide by zero.
